Life has been some combination of fairy-tale coincidence and joie de vivre and shocks of beauty together with some hurtful self-questioning. —Sylvia Plath (via quotesandnonsense)

I can’t ever really look at an image of a mermaid without feeling sad. I know that they are supposed to be these beautiful, mystic, underwater, creatures but all I can think of is the story of the “Little Mermaid.” Classic, Grimm, Disney or otherwise I don’t think the protagonist was ever truly happy. There’s no joy in seeking something unattainable, especially when that “something” pertains to the self.

“Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.”
